More than 50,000 people apply for law enforcement jobs each year, yet gaps in background checks can let individuals with disqualifying criminal history slip through - putting public safety and trust at risk. This has happened in Kansas. That's why I proposed the bipartisan Criminal History Access Act with Congresswoman Deborah Ross. Our bill ensures agencies have the information needed to hire only qualified officers. Today, our bill unanimously passed the Judiciary Committee and now heads to the House floor.
